The festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi is going to start from 19 Sept. 2012. Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesh, the Hindu god of wisdom and prosperity. According to Hindu mythology, on this day Lord Shiva blessed his son Lord Ganesh that he will be worshiped first ever. Lord Ganesha is worshiped as the god of wisdom and prosperity in Hinduism.

The festival, which lasts for 10 days, is mainly celebrated in India's west and south. It is one of the main festivals of Maharashtra.Every year the city of Mumbai remains jam-packed during the festival. During these 10 days the city remains standstill for Ganesha. Thousands of stalls floods every cities of the country amid a lot of celebrations.
Most of the cities throughout the country are set to compete for most fabulous celebration. Millions of devotees across the globe visits these Pandals. 

IDOLS:
Every year idol makers across the country show their talent by making Ganesha idol in different styles and patterns. We can see regional and national effect on these idols. This year a wide variety of idol can be seen in the market. We see tiny figurines to massive Ganesha idols measuring 25 feet high that are beautifully moulded in plaster of paris, decorated and depicted in various postures, colors and sizes.




Anna effect can also be seen in the idols. Idols of Anna and Ganesha are quite popular. Idol makers has shown sheer interest in ecology and made eco friendly idols which are in great demand.
In Bengaluru, this year’s flavor is Spiderman Ganesha and some have even depicted as Eega based on film star Sudeep’s hit movie.
The other creations of the wisdom god includes Padma Ganesha (Ganesha sitting inside a large pink lotus), Shanka Ganesha (the idol in conch shell), Siddhi Buddhi Ganesha, Ele Ganesha (Lord seated in a huge leaf) and the Shiva Parvathi Ganesha.

SECURITY: 
Heavy security forces have been deployed across cities and intelligence agencies have been alerted to avert any misshapen. In Mumbai only, 19000 policemen have been deployed to handle any incident. Big events like Ganesh Chaturthi, Janmasthmi etc. are always on terror radar. Government is taking no chance in this matter.
According to Mumbai police stats, about 18,000 policemen of the strong 45,000 force have been posted in different parts of the city as part of the festival security. 1,000 more policemen were called in from different parts of the state to guard the metropolis. 
Some famous Pandals like 'Lalbaugcha Raja' have been given special security forces as there are lakhs of visitors daily there.
Other than city policemen, four companies of the State Reserve Police, six companies of CRPF, and three companies of Rapid Action Force, along with 2,500 jawans from the Home Guard and Civil Defence will assist police force,
