The legendary filmmaker and adamant advocate of love , Yash Chopra passed away on 21 October, 2012 at the age of 80. He has been hailed as the genuine movie maker of bollywood whose films has seen a lots of trends and success.


Yash Chopra's style of filmmaking was quite interesting. His focus area was love which has always been a starry success for him. He had captured every form of love on his camera like complex love triangles (Daag and Chandni), convoluted love quadrangle (Silsila), love defying category (Kabhi Kabhie), age-gap amour (Lamhe), fake young serious romance (Dil To Paagal Hai), love as sacrifice (Veer Zara).

Yash chopra initially worked under his Brother, the great B R Chopra. Later he established his own production unit, Yash Raj Films. His first venture was Daag (1973) starring Rajesh Khanna. This movie opened every gate of success for him. He later dumped Khanna and opted for emerging Amitabh Bachchan. Yash Chopra never bowed against starry tantrums.

Success has always been on his footstep. Yash Chopra had won several film awards, including six National Film Awards and eleven Filmfare awards including four Filmfare Award for Best Director. The Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2005 for his contributions towards Indian cinema.

He never have been away from films for long. During his last days, he was working on his latest ventures 'Jab tak hai jaan' which is scheduled for release on Diwali. The movie stars Shahrukh khan, katrina kaif and anushka sharma. Dhoom3 starring Amir khan is also under production. 

Yash Chopra is survived by his wife Pamela Chopra whom he married in 1970 and his two sons Aditya and Uday Chopra. Aditya is also a film director and Uday is an assistant director turned actor who debuted in film Mohabbatein in 2000.
